Find yourself

Perhaps what you are missing is contact with what you yourself want.

It is hard to find yourself in a life that never stops

From the outside it looks good, and that is true as well, since you have what you need and perhaps more than that. Even so, everyday life has gone grey in a way that is hard to explain to anybody else. You move from one task to the next without anything really filling you, and perhaps you have already changed jobs or read a whole shelf of books about personal development, which helped for a while.

Many of the people we talk to find it hard to say what makes their heart beat faster today, and it is seldom for lack of will or discipline. They have lost contact with their own needs and feelings, since life so rarely leaves time to keep that contact alive.

Sometimes the question is raised by something changing, for example after a separation, when the children have moved out, before retirement, at a change of career, or when life works but the question “what do I want now?” has become important. You can just as well come here with a question as with a problem.

Registering your interest commits you to nothing and gives you no place yet. You book a phone slot through the link in the email you receive. We call you then, and whether the week suits you right now is something we decide together in that conversation.

Why you cannot think your way to finding yourself

Many people try to think their way there by weighing pros and cons against each other and waiting for the answer to what they “really want” to become clear by itself. What you are looking for is more often found in how you relate to yourself and your needs, and in patterns you built so early that today they feel like part of your personality.

Those patterns show up poorly in everyday life, where you are busy making the day work, and they become visible only when you stop for properly long in another place, together with somebody who knows what to look for.

A week on an island, without a phone

You stay seven days and eight nights at Aspö kursgård, on an island in lake Båven, in a group of about twenty. You hand in your phone for the week, and that is probably what feels most unfamiliar before you arrive. Outside the course room it is quiet, and the quiet makes room for what you otherwise drown out with activity and a screen in your hand.

The course leaders have worked with these weeks for a long time and are there throughout, and Step 1 requires no previous experience.

What you are looking for you have had before

Finding yourself is often a matter of finding your way back to something you once had and lost contact with, many times because there was no room for it where you grew up. During the week you get to explore your feelings and needs, and how you have been shaped, and by what.

Your outer world also tends to mirror your inner one, and perhaps you recognise how the smallest thing can irritate you when you are in a bad mood, while your patience goes on and on during a day when you feel well, even though the circumstances are exactly the same. That is the kind of thing we work with during the week, both in the group and in individual conversations.

The courses have been held in this form since 1985. If you want to know whether one of them suits you right now, you register your interest and book a phone slot, and we call you and talk it through. In that conversation we also look at whether it is a course you need or another kind of help, since we make no diagnoses and do not provide health care.
